The Light Shines in the Darkness

Sometimes a quick iphone photo is all you need to put things in perspective. A coworker sent me this photo she'd taken of a glowing cross and the iconic Calgary Tower from her living room window as flooding caused power outages and evacuations in downtown Calgary. She also sent this verse:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5, ESV).

As Calgarians -- and residents of many other southern Alberta communities -- wait for river waters to recede, this photo is a reminder that God's love and presence does not disappear when electricity, hydro, gas, our homes, and every semblance of stability does. It surrounds us, comforts us, keeps us grounded in times of uncertainty.

The darkness has not overcome it. The darkness WILL not overcome it. Christ will not leave us. He is here, now and forever.
