Aid Delivered to Desperate South Sudanese

Thanks to Canadian donors like you, Samaritan’s Purse provides clean water and more to people fleeing violence.

An estimated 1.5 million South Sudanese are displaced within their own country and in neighboring Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan due to violence that broke out late last year.

Samaritan’s Purse has been providing aid including food, water, medical care, and shelter to desperate families—as well as sharing the Gospel with them.

Thanks to the generosity of Canadians, emergency relief has been delivered to thousands in Lakes State and on islands in the nearby Nile River. This has included:

  • repairing 19 hand-pumps to help over 5,800 people get clean water (see photo at above left)
  • constructing 200 latrines and 100 bath houses
  • conducting more than 40 training events on health and hygiene (see photo at lower right).

More than 4,200 households have received items like soap, mosquito nets, and blankets to help them in their daily lives.

Due to severe food insecurity, Samaritan’s Purse has also distributed 100 large fishing nets to groups living on the islands, as well as seeds and tools to 2,500 people on the mainland.

“We thank God for bringing the people of Samaritan’s Purse to help with our situation,” one father of seven told us.

“We appreciate so much your efforts in providing us with clean water by fixing our wells and teaching us good hygiene practices.”

Elsewhere in South Sudan, Samaritan’s Purse continues to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the suffering, including in Unity and Upper Nile States where we are distributing nutritional supplements to children and pregnant women.  We are also providing water, sanitation, and hygiene programming as well as distributing emergency food.

Your prayers and financial gifts are needed in order for Samaritan’s Purse to continue reaching the lost and hurting in South Sudan. Please give generously today.
