Serving overseas with World Medical Mission
World Medical Mission, a project of Samaritan's Purse, enables medical professionals to serve overseas and strengthen the ministries of mission hospitals and clinics through health care and spiritual care.
Through World Medical Mission, Samaritan's Purse removes many of the barriers and difficulties from serving overseas. We enable medical professionals who want to give of themselves in obedience to God's leading to do so with minimal hindrances and red tape. As a result, the ministries of mission hospitals and clinics are strengthened and they are able to offer better health care and to lead more people to faith in Christ.
How we serve our volunteers:
When volunteers serve through World Medical Mission, we coordinate the details including:
- Evaluating interests and abilities and matching you with a hospital, clinic, or project in a mutually acceptable time frame
- Providing orientation and spiritual resources in advance of, and throughout service
- Arranging international travel schedules and airline ticketing
- Assisting with necessary visas, permits, and other field requirements
- Coordinating field housing and transportation arrangements
- Assisting volunteers in handling financial details related to overseas service
Who we serve:
World Medical Mission places Evangelical Christian physicians and dentists, and also has limited opportunities for nurses and other medical and biomedical personnel. Applicants must align with Samaritan's Purse's Statement of Faith and articulate their Christian testimony and faith journey in the application process. The requirements of our partner mission hospitals, the specific context, and the suitability of the applicant will be weighed in all placement decisions.

In addition to placing those who are established in their practices, World Medical Mission also has opportunities for dedicated Christian physicians to serve overseas in our two-year Post-Residency Program after they have completed their residencies and/or fellowships.
In partnership with Project CanMedSend, this fully-funded program assists gifted physicians who have been called by the Lord to medical missions. Immediately following your residency, World Medical Mission facilitates a placement in a mission hospital within your specialty while providing placement, logistical, and financial support as you serve.
The Post-Residency Program is designed to introduce physicians to the blessings and opportunities in medical missions. Physicians will work within their specialty, but as with all medical mission experiences, flexibility is essential and physicians will care for a wide variety of patients.
For information about the Post-Residency Program or to request an application, please contact Scott Reichenbach at firstname.lastname@example.org. A committee of World Medical Mission senior staff members will review all applications and interview qualified individuals.
The committee will consider your medical specialty, testimony, references, and God's leading in your life, as well as your long-term career goals. Your application must be made by June 1 in the last year of your residency.
