Location: Bolivia
The eastern region of Bolivia is part of the Amazon basin. Remote river communities in the Bolivian Amazon are disconnected from the rest of the world, with no access to land or air transport, communication, or basic services. Many people are unaware of basic health and sanitation practices and have never received medical or dental care. Consequently, a variety of illnesses run rampant in these communities. In addition, many have never heard the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
In response to these needs, Samaritan’s Purse Bolivia is launching the Amazon River Boat project. Following its construction, a specially-outfitted boat will travel to remote river-bordering communities, bringing them medical and dental care, along with the Good News of the Gospel.
This team will be assisting the local boat builder to construct cabins, beds, and decks, as well as paint, towards the end of the construction stage. Volunteers must have carpentry skills and the ability to work long and hard hours.
Dates: August 1 – August 14, 2010
Cost: $3,500 per person (tax receiptable)
Trip price includes return airfare from Calgary, accommodations, meals, ground transportation, project costs, and Samaritan’s Purse leader.
What is not included: Vaccinations and personal spending money are your own responsibility.
