Give hope on World Health Day and give mothers and families a healthier future.
Kimberly closed her eyes as she endured another painful contraction. There was no doubt in her mind that this was the real thing. Next came a knock at the door followed by a flood of relief.
Marivic entered the small home and rushed to Kimberly’s side. The midwife had visited Kimberly regularly throughout her pregnancy because the young mom couldn’t afford to travel for prenatal checkups. She lived deep in the remote hill country of the northern Philippines.
Marivic helped Kimberly safely deliver her precious daughter—her firstborn—using all the skills and knowledge she’d gained as a midwife with the Abundant Grace of God Maternity Center, supported by Samaritan’s Purse and friends like you.
Then, Marivic saw that Kimberly was in danger of life-threatening bleeding.
Another knock at the door brought a second midwife who came with the maternity center’s ambulance and more emergency birthing supplies. Together, the two midwives stabilized Kimberly and prevented the bleeding.
After bringing mom and baby to the maternity center, they then noticed Kimberly’s daughter had dangerously low blood sugar. The team hurriedly transferred her to a hospital for urgent care.
“They are extremely grateful for Abundant Grace of God Maternity Center and their care, which saved the lives of both mom and baby,” said Georgia—a Canadian midwife who leads the clinic. “They are both doing well now and at home in their village.”
Your support means wonderful work is happening in this remote province of the Philippines. There, few people have heard the Name of Jesus, and the infant mortality rate is one of the country’s highest. As the only non-profit maternity center in the area, Abundant Grace of God provides free prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care for 500 mothers each year.
Patients are introduced to the love of Christ through prayer, Bible-based emotional support, and connection to a local church if they desire. The center also provides training and discipleship for Filipina midwives. We thank God for your vital support of this life-saving ministry.
