The people of West Africa desperately need your prayers and support as they face what is being called the worst Ebola outbreak in seven years.
April, 2014—The Ebola virus, which has a fatality rate of up to 90%, causes a sudden onset of fever and weakness, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, failing organs, and both internal and external bleeding. It is an excruciatingly painful virus without a vaccine or cure.
Already, 170 cases have been reported in the West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Fatalities have climbed to 107.
We are doing our best to help. Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with the Government of Liberia’s Ministry of Health to contain the outbreak, and is helping to stop the spread of the deadly disease by educating the public and raising awareness in communities.
We are also supporting our partner hospital on the ground in Liberia. A plane carrying essential supplies for preventing the disease (including hazmat suits, masks, and more) will be arriving at that hospital soon. Our Disaster Assistance Response Team—including several Canadians—has been activated.
Please fervently pray:
- that God will guide the shipment of supplies to our partner hospital quickly, as they are crucial for the staff to be able to respond
- that our staff and partners in the field will be protected as they serve the critical medical needs of those who have contracted the virus
- that the Lord will prepare the hearts of those our staff come in contact with during our awareness campaign in coming days—may they be receptive to understand the dangers of the Ebola virus and be empowered to protect themselves
- that the Ebola outbreak will be contained, and that those who contract the virus will be restored to health
