SAMARITAN’S PURSE CANADA IS LOOKING FOR CANADIAN VOLUNTEERS TO HELP OUR AMERICAN NEIGHBOURS IN THE LE SUER, MN FLOOD RESPONSE.
Currently scheduling volunteers beginning Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 a.m. through Saturday, July 27, 2024.
On the night of June 24, torrential rain caused the Rapidan Dam to collapse which led to flooding that devastated the Minnesota town of Waterville. More than 170 families have been affected and a state of emergency has been declared in the area.
Because Samaritan’s Purse USA is at capacity with disaster responses, the town has requested help from Samaritan’s Purse Canada. “These families have lost so much, and they have no one to turn to for help,” said Keith Waara, acting director of Canadian Ministry Projects. “We pray for these hurting families and are planning to do all we can to ease their distress.”
We are asking for volunteers to assist homeowners affected by the floods and help in Jesus’ Name with mud-outs and debris cleanup. There will be opportunities for overnight and day volunteers, no skills are required prior to serving, volunteers will be led by experienced team leads and all training will be done on site.
Here is what you can expect:
Length of Stay: Minimum stay of three days for overnight volunteers. Maximum stay of 2 weeks.
Schedule: Volunteers will work Monday through Saturday. At the beginning of a deployment, we work limited hours on Sundays.
Minimum Age: Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age or older. Youth, ages 14-15, must be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian and youth, ages 16-17, must be accompanied by an adult chaperone unless the team is registered as a youth group. Youth groups may serve with Samaritan’s Purse and are required to complete a Youth Leader Covenant. Please read more information about our youth.
Additional Information: Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to the site. Meals and sleeping quarters are provided for overnight volunteers. Volunteers need to bring twin size air mattress or cot, linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towels and personal hygiene items. Tools will be provided, and volunteers are welcome to bring their own tool belts and small hand tools. Volunteers should dress in long pants and sturdy boots.
“Please pray for the people of Waterville and the surrounding areas,” said Waara. “The amount of devastation and property loss is immense. We are bringing hope in Jesus’ Name to those who need it most.”
Your prayers and financial support will make a critical difference in Jesus’ Name.
