The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting communities around the globe. The health crisis and ensuing economic impacts are magnifying the vulnerabilities of those already in dire situations because of illness, poverty, and exploitation worldwide. The need is urgent.
Samaritan’s Purse Canada is working with field offices and local partners in more than 30 countries to respond to the effects of COVID-19. Many of our staff and partners are operating in contexts where there are government-mandated shutdowns. Borders are closed. Movement is restricted. Medical capacity is limited. Many communities do not have access to accurate information about how to keep their communities safe within cultural contexts that promote unsafe health practices. There is also a looming threat of food and medicine shortages caused by containment measures and restrictions.
In light of this increasingly complex and urgent crisis, Samaritan’s Purse is responding in Jesus’ name through prevention and emergency response measures. Around the world, we are sharing accurate information about COVID-19 and public health measures that will help keep families safe. We are working to encourage and support safer handwashing behaviors, soap making, production of face masks, and the installation of handwashing stations. Additionally, Samaritan’s Purse is organizing distributions of emergency food, medical equipment, and other essential supplies to communities in dire need. Additionally, Samaritan’s Purse is continuing our work to help vulnerable people through distributions of emergency food, medical equipment, and other essential supplies to communities in dire need. Samaritan’s Purse is caring for migrant workers through access to information, safe transportation, and sustainable livelihoods. These projects, in all of their various forms, will seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with a world that now, more than ever, is in desperate need of the hope that Christ alone offers.
We are racing to reach over 300,000 of the world’s most vulnerable with our emergency response to this global pandemic.
