A Safe Haven

When Percy learned that Samaritan’s Purse was set up at a nearby church, the hardworking boatmaker was initially reluctant to ask for help. But upon arrival at our Disaster Relief Unit tractor trailer, “It was like a safe haven,” Percy said. “There was this immediate, ‘We can help you.’ I’ve never experienced it before—totally unconditional.”

As a team arrived to clear his driveway and remove a massive tree from his family’s longtime home, it was like a weight lifted from Percy’s shoulders with each branch removed. At the end of the work, Percy then received a Bible signed by every team member. “Words alone cannot express how grateful we are,” Percy and his wife wrote in a note to the team. “Thank you for the beautiful Bible. May God be with us all.”

Inside a Disaster Relief Unit

  • Pumps, shovels, wheelbarrows, anti-mold spray, and masks to clean flooded homes
  • Sifters, respirators, and protective suits to search burned homes for surviving possessions
  • Chainsaws, rakes, and safety gear to remove fallen trees after storms
  • A mobile office to coordinate the response and assist homeowners
  • Bright orange safety shirts for every volunteer
  • A Bible to sign and present to each homeowner as a reminder that God has not forgotten them

As volunteer teams serve, God opens doors to share the hope of the Gospel. And after the initial clean-up, your gifts also make a difference by allowing long-term teams to journey with families on the road to recovery.

When you give this Christmas, you can help Canadians in crisis by sharing the Gospel in word and deed..

Together, We Can Share Help and Hope in Jesus with Canadians in Crisis

When floods, fires, or storms take home away from Canadian families, God uses your gifts to help them in some of their darkest moments, and then begin a journey to recovery, all in Jesus’ Name.
