Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
As the Recovery Specialist, you will contribute to the long-term community recovery following disasters through establishing and strengthening connections between community members, social supports, government, and churches within Jasper, Alberta. You will collaboratively work with individuals and the impacted community to provide innovative solutions for sustainable, long-term recovery. In this dynamic role, you will also extend your support to churches and community groups, fostering a cohesive and integrated strategy to enhance the role of the local church in community recovery. As an integral member of the Canadian Ministry Projects Team, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in daily prayer ministry.
The successful candidate will fulfill a remote full-time one-year contract position, working from a home office situated in close proximity to Jasper, Alberta. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, and 15 vacation days per year to start.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Functions as a convener of local and external support providers as well as local churches to support a collaborative approach to recovery
- Attends necessary local recovery meetings to learn of potential service gaps as well as individual and community needs
- Develops and implements a community entry strategy to gain knowledge of local community context including demographics, available resources, social supports, etc.
- Directs affected individuals to most appropriate agencies or organizations in the area where they may find assistance
- Provides, where appropriate, individual case management support for local and external organizations leveraging SPC’s organizational approach to recovery
- Maintains relationship with community members, communicating progress and supporting them through the recovery process
- Offers guidance to individuals affected by disasters, helping them access provincial support systems to enhance recovery efforts as well as financial resources specifically allocated for the reconstruction or repair of their homes
- Follows up with homeowners through recovery journey and ministers to them throughout, encouraging local church involvement where appropriate
Qualifications:
- Qualified applicants must be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith
- Access to a private home office located in close proximity to Jasper, Alberta
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in emergency management, social work, ministry, or other relevant field
- 2-3 years of experience in emergency management, humanitarian aid, social work, or first response
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Adaptable to varying schedules, including evenings and weekends, as required based on community needs
- Ability to work in and adapt to dynamic situations
- Strong investigative, analytical and organizational skills
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment
- Professional communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Relationship builder with various demographics
