Growing Hope over Hunger
Thanks to your generous support, hungry families are provided with the seeds, tools, and training they need to grow nutritious, abundant gardens and overcome hunger.
Equipping Families to Thrive
Hunger creates cycles of insecurity
Global hunger is at record levels. Worldwide, over 2 billion people do not have regular access to sufficient or nutritious food. Every day, 25,000 people, including more than 10,000 children, die from hunger and related causes. Oftentimes, families that grow food still suffer from chronic poverty and malnutrition. Without the skills and knowledge to maximize their plot of land, or when livelihoods are wiped out by drought, disaster, or war, these families are left trapped in a cycle of insecurity and hunger.
However, Samaritan’s Purse and generous donors like you are responding in Jesus’ Name by providing the tools and training to break free from hunger.
Agriculture Training
Planting seeds of hope
Samaritan’s Purse is working around the world in hunger hotspots to rapidly expand food projects to meet growing hunger needs. In 25 countries, agriculture and food assistance programs are vital to helping families access tools and training to grow safe, abundant, and nutritious food not only for today but well into the future.
Your gift of food and nutrition ensure children grow up healthy, families are equipped to feed themselves, and communities thrive. At the same time, Gospel seeds are sown as families are introduced to Jesus Christ and receive the Word of God.
- Beneficiaries receive multi-day, hands-on training in natural, cost-effective ways to grow plentiful crops.
- Every beneficiary receives tools and seeds, and is formed into farmer support groups for ongoing encouragement, discipleship, and technical follow-up.
- Our teams make regular visits to give families advice and support, helping over 24,000 people receive training in improved agriculture in 2025.
Feeding Hungry Families
‘I had never heard about Jesus Christ’
A bone-chilling wind blew over the wintry Mongolian landscape. Outside the door of Jamsranjar’s traditional yurt home, the gale afflicted his sheep and goats, which huddled together for warmth.
Inside, the young herdsman spoke openly about the bitter losses he and his aging, mute father had recently experienced. A dreaded dzud had destroyed most of their livestock for the past three years. “When severe winter comes, we have to spend lots of money to try to save our animals. Many of them die,” explained Jamsranjar. His family was struggling to make it through each day.
But the Lord did not forget Jamsranjar. Through prayer and support like yours, He enabled Samaritan’s Purse and local churches to start an agricultural project in Jamsranjar’s community.
The project provides farm machinery and training to help families grow hay to feed their herds and vegetables to sustain themselves through the harshest winters.
“Before this project, I had no skill or knowledge about vegetable farming or haymaking,” he said. “I can proudly say that the hay we harvested will be enough for the whole winter!” Jamsranjar’s also stored up a half-ton of homegrown produce to help sustain his household.
Above all, this project opens doors to share the love of our Heavenly Father.
“I had never heard about Jesus Christ before—just the Name,” said Jamsranjar, who had many opportunities to hear the Gospel. One day, while a local pastor was praying for him, he shared, “I felt something happening in my heart, and I received Jesus Christ.” We praise God!

Why Food Projects Matter
Join us in empowering families with food for life
Tools and Training
Samaritan’s Purse sends experts to guide families in applying the principles of conservation agriculture. These techniques focus on minimal soil disturbance, maximum soil coverage, and maximum biodiversity in crop rotation.
This approach produces a sustained impact, reducing input costs and promoting the growth of a variety of nutritious and healthy crops. Everything needed to start, including seed packs, irrigation tools, hoes, rakes, and shovels, is also provided.
Supporting Growth
After training, beneficiaries are placed together in support groups for ongoing encouragement, discipleship, and technical follow-up. These groups not only benefit one another but also extend out to support entire communities.
Knowledge is shared and passed along to support other families in starting their own gardens. The bounty of a harvest is also paid forward, as beneficiaries will bless their neighbors with fresh crops.
The Gospel in Action
A nutritious meal is only the beginning. As God brings health to families, He also gives the opportunity to share the Gospel.
Throughout agriculture training, families are taught about God as the greatest farmer who created and cultivated the earth and cares for us. During follow-up visits, our teams have the opportunity to pray for families or share more about Jesus Christ and sow more Gospel seeds.
