Dr. David Manz, the retired University of Calgary professor who invented the BioSand Water Filter that has provided safe water to more than two million people in the developing world so far, has been made a member of the prestigious Alberta Order of Excellence.
On Oct. 18, 2018, Dr. Manz was inducted into the order, which represents the highest award the government of Alberta can bestow on one of its citizens. The award recognizes his inventiveness and tenacity in creating the BioSand Filter, and his selflessness in offering it license-free to Samaritan’s Purse and other organizations so we can save lives by building and installing the filters worldwide.
