When back-to-back hurricanes struck the struggling nations of Honduras and Nicaragua in just two weeks, Canadians like David Whitrow didn’t hesitate to go where needed to help desperate survivors.
“People’s entire homes are underwater, and some will never be out of water again because some of the rivers have changed where they flow,” said the Regina resident.
David spent four weeks in Honduras as part of Samaritan’s Purse’s emergency relief efforts after hurricanes Eta and Iota devastated the region in November.
Generous Canadians like you have come to the aid of hurricane survivors by enabling Samaritan’s Purse to send David and others to Honduras and Nicaragua to offer aid to survivors.
In Honduras, Samaritan’s Purse has set up an emergency field hospital in the city of San Pedro Sula. In Nicaragua, we’re distributing emergency supplies such as tarps, hygiene kits, five-gallon water filtration systems, cooking utensils, and solar panels to power cellphones.
“The network … is remarkable” —Canadian DART member David Whitrow
Operation Christmas Child, the ministry that puts shoebox gifts in the hands of millions of children in need every year, is helping to make these vital distributions possible.
“The network Samaritan’s Purse has through Operation Christmas Child is remarkable,” said David. “It’s those relationships with Honduran churches that allow us to get supplies to people who need them most.”
“Pastors are so effective in knowing who needs help the most, so it’s definitely a pleasure to see the network function in this situation.”
As Samaritan’s Purse staffers work, they show hurricane victims in Honduras and Nicaragua that God has not forgotten them. That opens the door to reveal the love and salvation offered by His Son. “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5, ESV).
