Responding to Ottawa Flash Floods

Samaritan’s Purse relief teams are on the ground in Ottawa, Ontario, as residents cope with homes, vehicles, and roads overwhelmed by flash floods.

Powerful Aug. 10 storms poured 75-100 mm of rain onto the city in a matter of hours. Streets turned into rivers and properties into lakes. Between 160 and 170 homes have flooded.

As a Samaritan’s Purse advance team is assessing damage in the affected neighborhoods, a Disaster Relief Unit tractor trailer is preparing to respond from our Hamilton, Ontario, warehouse. The Disaster Relief Unit will be set up at The Met Church to support relief teams as they help families clean out flooded houses, work to prevent mold growth, and prepare homes for repair.

Homeowners in need of assistance can call our Disaster Relief Unit at 1-844-547-2663.

“Our hearts go out to the Ottawa homeowners who were impacted by the floods and now face the monumental task of cleaning up,” said Brent Davis, Samaritan’s Purse’s director of Canadian ministry projects. “We are grateful to accept the city of Ottawa’s invitation to offer physical and spiritual help in any way we’re able.”

Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains will also serve alongside our teams to offer emotional support and spiritual comfort to residents dealing with the damage.

Please join us in praying for the families affected by this crisis and for the churches, first responders, and city officials working to help. Ask God to strengthen our teams as they come alongside residents with help and hope in Jesus’ Name.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
