Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
As the International Program Director, you will lead the International Community Program (ICP) team, providing direction, management, and supervision for international ministry activities and projects. This role will collaborate and coordinate with SPC International Headquarters (IHQ) counterparts to optimize integrated efforts and consistent standards of operation and activity. Additionally, this individual will support the Director of P&PD in fulfilling ministry goals and objectives with integrity and excellence. As an integral member of the P&PD, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in daily chapel and prayer ministry.
The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time permanent position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, free parking, RRSP contributions (after 1 year of employment) and 15 days of vacation per year.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- International Program Direction & Team Leadership
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive ministry implementation strategy, ensuring objectives align with SPC’s charitable purpose
- Stays informed about current issues and emerging trends in International Humanitarian Response and applied theology, with a focus on developing best practices in community resilience and advancing the Gospel
- Travels to oversee programs, projects, and other ministry initiatives funded by the organization, ensuring optimal use of resources to achieve SPC’s charitable goals and strengthen our partner networks and capacities
- Supports the International Disaster Response Director during the activation of the Incident Management Team (IMT), anticipating and planning the transition to project activities once the IMT is deactivated
- Coordination with IHQ
- Ensures adherence to the SPC/IHQ Master License Agreement, takes initiative, collaborates, and coordinates with IHQ counterparts to optimize SPC’s contribution to the integrated global efforts, appropriately tasking SPC resources
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs, and coordinates the ICP team, including the direct supervision of Program Managers and other staff as assigned
- Ensures staff have a clear understanding of expectations by effectively communicating performance objectives
- Allocates available resources, coaching, and training to meet expectations, while encouraging professional development and advancement to maximize staff strengths and optimize team performance
- Encourages staff to maintain a healthy Christian faith and work-life balance, fostering vitality, sustained performance, and a spirit of service
- Administrative Accountabilities
- Administers the ICP departmental budget as well as oversight of the ICP Program budgets relating to International Ministry activities and ongoing operations
- Maintains management, compliance, and accuracy of financial records for all related activity
- Coordinates travel priorities, planning and departmental budget with Program Managers
- Contributes to P&PD business process development and systems improvements
- Maintains expert knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, as well as related internal and external policies and guidance
- Engagement
- Maintains an operational knowledge of all SPC and BGEAC Ministry activities to facilitate integration and coordination whenever possible
- Contributes to SPC Communications and Donor Ministry Departments’ fundraising efforts by ensuring staff and partner engagement, providing relevant and accurate information, stories, and social media content from the field
- Supports the pursuit of foundation and institutional funding sources, contributing to grant applications and subsequent reporting
Qualifications:
- Qualified applicants must be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, International Development, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in Program and Project Management, ideally within a Biblically-based community development or disaster recovery setting
- 5+ years of experience in middle to senior-level management, demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and strategic oversight
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, including Results-Based Management, Theory of Change, and strong measurement and evaluation skills
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Passport with no travel restrictions
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, with trips lasting up to two weeks to one month
- Emergency First Aid – CPR A & AED; Standard First Aid – CPR C & AED preferred
